The news that Paxil manufacturers GlaxoSmithKline are to be sued for side-effects of their drug on its users comes as no surprise to me. Used to treat panic attacks and anxiety, this SSRI medication has become as popular as Prozac for the treatment of anxiety and panic attacks.

The complaint alleges that the drug 'is more addictive' and 'has a greater tendency to induce physical and physiological dependency' than other anti-depressants. Withdrawal can cause anxiety and panic attacks to come back, sometimes much worse than before and many other quite frightening symptoms.

Since the drug was introduced in 1992 we have heard mixed reports regarding its therapeutic effectiveness and many more reports from our clients who have complained of severe withdrawal and rebound anxiety problems.

GlaxoSmithKline are being sued by three Paxil users who say that the drug company suppressed their findings which actually proved that the return of anxiety and panic attacks were evident in the majority of Paxil users. They continued to sell the drug regardless.
