Some panic attacks symptoms can be overwhelming and frightening but they are natural and expected sensations and thoughts associated with the anxiety response and they can't harm you.
Your panic attacks are natures pressure valve, allowing your body to use up adrenalin that it can't use up fighting or fleeing from real risk.

Panic Attack Symptoms Explained - Please read and understand fully.
The term 'symptom' is a medical term used to describe the physical signs of illness... anxiety disorder is NOT an illness, therefore all the symptoms you experience are actually just sensations.
Yes, I said SENSATIONS because every single feeling and thought you experience is simply the result of a 'nerve signal' sent out during high anxiety... the emotion of fear.
They ARE NOT a sign of illness.
STOP - THIS IS IMPORTANT
The emotion of fear should only be activated when something REAL is present for you to fear.
If you experience these symptoms even when nothing is present for you to be scared of; what you are experiencing isn't TRUE FEAR... it's INAPPROPRIATE ANXIETY... the bodily sensations of FEAR, BUT NOT REAL FEAR!
Every inappropriate thought, feeling of impending doom, every symptom, are ALL, without exception, caused by the risk assessment thoughts sent out to your body from your mind during the flight or fight response.
These thoughts developed in humans to decide a number of factors quickly... these are:
- What in my environment could cause me harm?
- Do I need to take action?
- If I do need to take action, should I FLEE or FIGHT?
IF a REAL threat exists in your environment, you take appropriate action (this is all subconscious and automatic) BUT in anxiety disorders, no REAL threat exists so these thought processes turn their focus towards the symptoms of your panic attack and anxiety and determines, incorrectly, that THEY are the risk!!
Yes, it decides that your symptoms are a risk to you... but they are not.
AND, how does the brain respond to risk?
By releasing adrenalin... the adrenalin release causes more anxiety which causes more symptoms... these again are determined to be a risk and the cycle continues.
Does that make sense to you?
You see the symptoms and thoughts you experience are created by 'fear causing symptoms - causing fear - causing symptoms' and so on.
The thoughts that the anxiety response causes can be aggressive, sexual, homosexual, religious and inappropriate in nature and the symptoms you experience can be extreme and frightening. Some are listed below.

I want you to fully understand this because it's so easy to believe doctors and psychologists who tell you you are ill or to 'give in' to the panic attack symptoms and thoughts as something REAL.

A list of the frequently occuring symptoms
- Increased heart rate, palpitations, heart 'bumps'
- Feeling sick, heart burn, upper gastric pain, pain in abdomin
- Feeling dizzy, unstable
- Pain in or around heart and chest
- Feeling short of breath or difficulty to take a deep breath
- Increased sweating
- Lightheaded, faint
- Trembling or shakiness - internal or of limbs
- Feeling of lump in throat or difficulty swallowing (Globus hystericus)
- Feeling like you are 'losing your mind'
- Sensations like pins and needles in hands or feet
- Numb face, head or limbs
- Feeling cold or hot
- Palour (pale skin)
- Need to use toilet more regularly (urination and defecation)
- Redness on face or neck, blotchiness
- Thoughts of an aggressive, sexual, homosexual or inappropriate nature
- Pains in the neck, shoulders, head
- Muscle pain, especially in neck or shoulders
- Derealization (feeling unreal or dreamy)
- Depersonalization (feeling outside yourself or like you don't exist)
...and the list goes on!
Wherever you have nerves in your body (everywhere), you can experience symptoms.
Just because your experience of anxiety and panic symptoms might differ from this list doesn't mean that you don't have an anxiety disorder and that something else could be the cause of your condition, so relax and call my staff about anything you experience, because there is NOTHING they haven't heard before. What causes panic attack symptoms to develop?
Your body is an incredibly sophisticated machine and your bodily systems are controlled by hormones and nerve signals.
During stress and anxiety, many physical changes happen in the body...
... your body is very, very resilient indeed and NONE of these anxiety or panic attack symptoms will harm you.
Just because you might feel 'weak' doesn't mean you are weak.
Just because you feel vulnerable and ill doesn't mean that you are... it just means that the information fed up your nerves (from your body) to your brain is being misinterpreted and the reaction to that information is inappropriate...

What are the negative effects of panic attacks?
You may feel depleted after a panic attack has subsided OR, if they are constant, you may feel quite unsteady and weak... but don't be alarmed, this is completely normal and non-threatening.

It is common to experience muscle pain, especially in the upper body and neck, but you might also experience achy legs or arms.
Most head, neck and shoulder pain is caused by tension that restricts blood vessels and nerves, causing them to refer discomfort and pain into the musles. This can cause numbness and tingling and even cause your face, mouth, eyes and nose to respond or feel differently.
Many people experience drooping muscles, drooling from the mouth, watery eyes and facial numbness... this is quite normal during high anxiety. Headaches and migraines are also very common.
