Emetophobia (fear of vomiting)
- Emetophobia
A fear of vomiting or of being around others who are vomiting.
Many anxiety and panic attack sufferers, have a fear of vomiting known as Emetophobia (approximately 14% of our clients actually.)
This is due, partly, to an anxiety reaction created by experiencing vomiting and partly to the production of nausea due to the anxiety that this phobia produces. This cycle of 'fear producing nausea which produces fear' can spiral out of control.
Most anxiety sufferers with this inappropriate fear of vomiting don't actually throw up, they just feel like they might. This is a horrible sensation and many anxiety disorder sufferers have been there.
It is important to recognize that emetophobia is an anxiety disorder and not a separate condition. All phobias are symptoms of an anxiety disorder - because, if you weren't frightened, you wouldn't have the phobia and you shouldn't be frightened of things that don't pose any actual risk to you. The same is true of Emetophobia.
So how do you stop the cycle?
Simple - you defeat the anxiety disorder that causes the nausea and the emetophobia and therefore you stop the phobia, but you have to know how to stop the anxiety.
I can show you how to stop your fear of vomiting, overcome your inappropriate anxiety and return to a life NOT ruled by your fears.
